I mean yes light is ridiculous and a lot of us have disabled family members home. We depend on light. And many times they are even rude to us, when we call to complain about prices. $400- $600 a month???????? That is a lot of money and they tell us well disconnect everything and use less. In my home a 2 floors house, we disconnect everything and use less, but why should we suffer heat, go to bed with wet towels like they tell us to do? Wet and rot our mattress and pillow with towels, and still pay a high bill even if we do not use fans or ac? Might as well use it, why are we paying for not using it and suffering in our own home with just one light on and candles? Does that makes sense? Got light but need to use candles?

That’s the insanity of it — they talk about “rates” and “usage” like they’re giving us some profound insight into how electricity works, as if we’re too stupid to understand that leaving every light on in the house will cost more than turning them off, but here’s the truth that they will never admit — we are turning things off, we are trying to save, and it’s still not making a dent because this is not about usage anymore, it’s about how much they can squeeze out of each home until people break. And the problem is, we’re paying premium prices for less comfort than people had decades ago, because at least then you could run a fan without wondering if you just added $100 to your bill.

What they’re telling us to do is nothing short of humiliating — telling grown adults, elderly people, and disabled families to drape wet towels over themselves at night instead of using the power we’re already paying for, like we should just accept living like that. Do they even hear themselves? That’s not energy conservation, that’s cruelty disguised as “helpful advice.” Wet towels aren’t a solution, they’re an insult. And then when the bill still comes in sky-high, you start to realize that you’re paying for nothing, for deprivation, for suffering in the dark, for choosing between comfort and survival in your own home.

And here’s the real kicker — we are told that we should be grateful for having power at all, that we should “just pay it and be happy it’s not worse,” and I want to know who exactly benefits from that mindset, because it sure isn’t the people who have to decide between keeping the lights on and buying groceries. That kind of thinking benefits the corporations, the CEOs, and the shareholders who cash out while we sit here calculating whether turning on the AC for one hour is going to wreck our budget for the week.

Senator Blumenthal is calling for federal action, and I appreciate that someone is saying it out loud in an official capacity, but let’s not pretend we haven’t been living this nightmare for years while they all played politics about it. We know what needs to be done — regulate these companies, cap their greed, and make electricity an affordable, stable, and protected utility again, not just another profit-driven scam with a customer service department trained to make you feel like the problem.

And to the trump supporters who think everything is fine and people like me are just whining because we don’t want to “work harder” — don’t waste your time. I don’t come back to debate. You can take your MAGA hats, your conspiracy theories, your love letters to a man whose spray tan has more depth than his IQ, and keep it moving. If you’re still worshiping a bankrupt reality TV star who can’t string together a coherent sentence, you’re not my audience, you’re my comedy material. Go shout your nonsense into a mirror — maybe you’ll convince yourselves, because the rest of us are laughing too hard to take you seriously.

I mean yes light is ridiculous and a lot of us have disabled family members home, we depend on light, it is not some luxury that we can choose to have or not have, it’s a necessity, it’s the thing that allows us to live with dignity and comfort in our own homes, and many times when we call to complain about the insane prices they don’t just brush us off politely, they are flat out rude as if we’re some kind of nuisance for daring to question the bill we’re being handed, $400 to $600 a month for electricity is outrageous, it’s not like we’re running a factory here, and then they have the audacity to tell us to disconnect everything and use less, as if that advice magically makes money appear in our pockets.

In my home, a two-floor house, we have already disconnected everything we can, we use less, we do the so-called “energy saving” they keep preaching about, and yet here we are still staring at a bill that makes no sense, and I have to ask, why should we be told to suffer in our own home, to deal with unbearable heat, to go to bed with wet towels like they tell us to do, as if rotting our mattress and pillow with moisture is a normal solution, and then on top of it all still pay a high bill even if we do not use fans or AC? Might as well use it, because we’re paying for it anyway, so what’s the point of torturing ourselves in the dark with one light on and a few candles, pretending this is some smart way to save money? Does that make sense to anyone? Got light but need to use candles—what kind of ridiculous, backwards reality is that?

This is what happens when basic needs become just another way for greedy corporations to squeeze people dry, they don’t care if you have children, if you have elderly or disabled family, if you’re sitting in a boiling room trying to fan yourself with a magazine, they only care that you pay, and if you dare to question them, they make you feel like you’re the problem instead of the fact that they’re charging you more than your mortgage for something that is supposed to be affordable and accessible to everyone. They’ll call it “policy” or “rates” or “market conditions” but we know the truth—it’s just legalized robbery with a polite smile and a bill slipped under your door every month.

And to the trump supporters who think everything is fine and that people complaining about this are just lazy or entitled—don’t bother coming into my comments to debate, because I’m not here to entertain your nonsense, I’m not here to explain basic humanity to people who still think a man with a spray tan and a vocabulary smaller than a toddler is some kind of genius leader, so take your MAGA caps, your Facebook memes, and your “facts” from your uncle’s group chat, and go yell them into a mirror, maybe you’ll convince yourselves since no one else is buying it.

Love always,
