The Bible’s Verdict on the Poor: It’s Time to Get Serious, Folks
You’ve probably heard it before—the claim that some politicians are "God’s chosen one," sent to save the masses. But if you’re listening to that mess coming from the Trump camp—let’s just call it what it is—they’ve got it twisted.
It’s honestly laughable how certain folks have elevated Donald Trump to divine status, as if his every move is ordained by God Himself. But let’s be real, a true leader according to the Bible doesn't spend time fluffing his own ego or lying through his teeth. They spend their time loving the poor, fighting injustice, and lifting up the marginalized.
But I guess making a quick buck off the backs of the weak and playing golf every other weekend doesn't really line up with biblical values, does it? Let’s break down exactly what God says about the poor, the marginalized, and the oppressed—and why Trump’s actions completely miss the mark.
1. God Demands Justice for the Poor—Silence Isn’t an Option
“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.”
— Proverbs 31:8-9
You hear that? Silence isn’t an option. God calls His people to advocate for the voiceless. So, where does Trump stand when it comes to the downtrodden? Does he speak up for the single mother trying to make ends meet? Or the homeless man on the street corner who’s been ignored for years? Nah. Instead, he reduced food stamps and endorsed policies that do more harm than good to the needy.
Let’s be honest—Trump talks a big game about being "God’s choice," but he sure as hell didn’t speak up when it was time to stand with the oppressed. Instead, he bullied, he mocked, and he ignored.
2. The Bible Says Nations Are Judged by How They Treat the Poor
“Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.”
— Ezekiel 16:49
What led to the fall of Sodom? Was it just about immorality? No, my friend. The Bible tells us it was about greed, neglect of the poor, and arrogance. Sound familiar? I’m looking at you, Trump.
Now, I’m not saying Trump is directly responsible for the fall of nations (though he certainly tried to topple a democracy), but if the Bible is clear on anything, it’s that God isn’t impressed by leaders who oppress the poor. And if you look at his policies, they sure aren’t doing much for the underprivileged.
3. Jesus Identified Himself with the Poor—So What Does That Mean for Trump?
“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”
— Matthew 25:40
When Jesus said this, He wasn’t playing games. He wasn’t just offering a suggestion—He was laying down a divine command. When you help the poor, you’re helping Jesus. But Trump? Well, he seems to think that the “least of these” don’t need help. You can argue with me all day, but the truth is staring us all in the face. His actions speak louder than his empty words.
He’s more interested in rolling back health care, cutting social programs, and pushing policies that disproportionately hurt the poor. Maybe he missed the part about feeding the hungry and giving shelter to the homeless? Maybe that’s in the version of the Bible he reads in between his Twitter rants?
4. God Hears the Cry of the Oppressed—And He’s Listening
“The Lord hears the needy and does not despise his captive people.”
— Psalm 69:33
You better believe God hears the cries of the oppressed. Whether it’s a prisoner, an immigrant, or someone just trying to scrape by—God listens. So when Trump and his allies shut their ears to the poor, they aren’t just ignoring human suffering—they’re ignoring God’s command. And trust me, God’s judgment is coming.
5. Oppression Brings God’s Wrath—So, Get Ready
“Woe to those who make unjust laws… to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed.”
— Isaiah 10:1-2
Let’s break this down: Oppression = God’s wrath. You can’t keep exploiting the poor, ignoring their cries, and pretending like God’s gonna be cool with it. He’s not.
So what did Trump do during his time in office? He passed laws that benefited the rich and made life harder for the most vulnerable. He slashed programs meant to help the needy, while pandering to the rich elite. That’s not just politics—that’s a direct contradiction of God’s will.
6. God Exalts the Humble and Brings Down the Proud
“He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.”
— Luke 1:52-53
This is the great reversal that Scripture promises. The proud are humbled, the humble are lifted. But Trump? He was proud of his wealth, his power, his ego. While the poor got poorer, the rich got richer, and Trump’s golden tower kept rising. His policies were designed to benefit the already powerful, not the humble or the needy.
Let me ask you this: Where’s the humility in that? Where’s the lifting of the hungry? It sure doesn’t look like anything Jesus would condone.
7. Generosity is the True Test of Righteousness
“Those who oppress the poor insult their Maker, but those who are kind to the needy honor Him.”
— Proverbs 14:31
Here’s the reality, friends—true righteousness isn’t about how much you can hoard, but how much you’re willing to give. Trump may have amassed billions, but he’s spent far more time hoarding than helping. In fact, his legacy is a glaring example of how greed, self-interest, and oppression can poison a nation.
So, if you want to talk about righteousness, I’ll just point to one thing: The richest man in the world doesn’t need your worship—the least of these do.
Final Word: Don’t Follow the False Shepherds
If you’re really looking for a leader who follows God’s will, look beyond the gold, the empty promises, and the arrogance. The true leaders are the ones who uplift the poor, fight for the oppressed, and walk humbly, just as Christ did.
And let me say it again: Trump is NOT God’s chosen leader. He’s a man made of false promises and empty words.
